The Easyboost digital gauge for 2-stroke engines lets you set and adjust your ignition easily, with ignition advance shown directly as a number on the LCD.

The Easyboost digital timing gauge lets you install and adjust ignition advance on internal or external rotor ignitions, with a display in hundredths of a millimetre (0.01 mm resolution); ignition advance can be measured from 0 to 10 mm. For scooters, 50cc AM6 or Derbi motorcycles, mopeds such as the MBK 51 or Peugeot 103, MBK Booster, Nitro, Piaggio and others.

This is the digital version of our dial gauge timing tool: there is no need to count pointer revolutions. The ZERO button sets the display to zero at top dead centre, and the screen then shows the distance before TDC as a negative value (3.20 mm before TDC = -3.20 mm).

You can set internal rotor ignitions such as PVL, Malossi MHR, MVT DD, Doppler, Stage6, Polini, Selettra Italkit and others, using the value specified in your ignition instructions: for example, 2.25 mm for MHR, 1.4 mm for Selettra Italkit or 3.3 mm for Malossi MHR on 50cc motorcycles.

Features

  • Measurable ignition advance from 0 to 10 mm, resolution 0.01 mm
  • LCD, OFF/ON button and ZERO button
  • Easyboost-engraved M14x1,25 spark plug adapter with locking screw
  • 6 mm stem extension supplied for large advance values (rarely needed)
  • LR44 (AG13) 1.5 V button cell supplied and installed in the device

How to use

  1. Before first use, pull out the battery insulating tab.
  2. Remove the spark plug, screw the M14x1,25 adapter into the spark plug hole and install the gauge: the probe must touch the piston and the stem must move freely.
  3. Switch on with OFF/ON and check that the display shows mm (otherwise press inch/mm).
  4. Slowly rotate the crankshaft to top dead centre (TDC), the highest piston position, then press ZERO: the screen shows 0.00.
  5. Rotate the crankshaft opposite to its normal direction until the advance specified in your ignition instructions is reached: the display becomes negative (3.20 mm before TDC = -3.20 mm).
  6. Align the rotor and stator marks according to the ignition instructions, tighten and recheck. Never start the engine with the tool installed.

Button cell: Keep new and used batteries away from children. If swallowed or inserted into the body, seek medical attention immediately. Replace only with an LR44 (AG13) alkaline 1.5 V cell, observing polarity. Collect the device and battery separately; never dispose of them with household waste.

Video of the method, filmed using the dial version EB221: the timing principle is the same; the digital screen replaces the pointer.
